Instructions for Peace Booklet app for iPhone and iPad

Instructions for Peace Booklet: An A to Z Guide is an interactive book art piece by new media artist Fang-Yu Lin. It is a lighthearted attempt at vernacular peace practices. Poking fun at the high-mindedness of the subject while subverting the cynicism of disbelievers, Fang-Yu creates 26 sets of ostensible instructions that anyone may follow to promote peace in his or her daily life. These humorous call-to-actions, one for each letter, are presented in the Booklet and accompanied by faux-naïf step by step guides and illustrations.

Evoking the image of childrens book and ebook, the artwork consists of a printed booklet and an iPad app. The app version includes a DIY Peace Collage feature that enables the user to create his or her own collage by entering a word and rearranging illustrations. Through this exercise, hateful languages become comical while noble concepts appear irreverent, further accentuating the artistic intention.
